The Distance That Defines You
Track and field is really a dozen sports sharing a stadium. A 400 runner and a 5000 runner have almost nothing in common — different bodies, different training, different relationship to pain — and both are quite clear about which one they are. Ask a thrower if they are a runner and see what happens.
That identity is unusually easy to engrave, because it is already a number.
Events, marks and dates
The event. 400. 800. 5000. Three or four characters, and instantly legible to anyone in the sport.
The mark. A personal best, or a qualifying standard someone chased for two seasons. This is the four to ten character tier — enough for a time or a distance.
The date. Championship finals, or the day a standard was finally hit.
All of it goes on the back of the plate, so the track design on the front stays as it is.
Font choice for numerals
Five fonts are available. For pure numerals, College Block is the closest to stadium and bib lettering, and Arial is the clean neutral option. The script face, Monotype Corsiva, is better across a word than across a time. You can preview any of them with your own text before ordering.
Outdoor season
316L stainless steel in polished steel or 18K gold PVD — waterproof, sweat resistant and tarnish resistant. Track is an outdoor sport in every kind of weather, and this is built to be worn through it rather than kept for afterwards.
Chains come at 18 and 20 inches; bracelets are adjustable with a 15 cm base and a 5 cm extender.
Engrave the event. It is the shortest possible answer to what kind of athlete you are.
